Fishing has been very good for us this past week with a mix of jumbo bluefish and striped bass lately when the weather has cooperated and allowed us to fish. Now is the time to get in on some good tackle-straining action while the hot fishing continues.
Actually, Santee had a pick of keeper and short bass plus blues until the change of tide brought cold fresh waters from yesterday's rains down -- and the action shut off on the Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands. Also from that port, Capt. Rob Semkewyc didn't expect much in discolored waters -- but was surprised to get a pick of blues plus a 30-inch bass and a couple of shorts on his Sea Hunter.
The torrential rain even kept shore anglers inside, though Joe Melillo of Castaways Tackle in Point Pleasant said some did get into blues in Point Pleasant Canal and Manasquan River. The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant reported that Thursday's high hook kept his bluefish limit out of an incredible 48 caught on jigs and swimmers.
