The spring fishing was excellent for drum and sea bass, and recently the shark fishing has been super with makos every trip along with other species. Right now the Tuna have turned on and fluke and Sea bass are lurking on the reefs and other structure inshore.
Atlantic Highlands fluke fishing July 12 12 July 2016 Capt. Tom Made both morning and afternoon trips again today. The big fluke of the morning was a 9lber caught by Craig Smith from Skilman N. J. On the afternoon trip the southeast breeze picked up and we could not hold bottom in the channel so we went into Sandy Hook bay.
July 12, 2016 7-12-16 Another nice day on the water, It was a variety day of fishing, we had quality keeper fluke, along with nice knucklehead sea bass, we also had a 5 lb. High hook was four keepers, some had 2-3, others had 1-2, others had short fluke only.
We started the day where we left off with some nice fish coming aboard, including the second keeper of the day at 8. Big Dave in the stern had another beauty at 6 plus and several other fish that made the cut.
Covered some ground and checked a bunch of areas to find some shorts and a few keepers everywhere we stopped. A good group of EBII regulars worked hard to put some nice fish in the coolers but there were not enough keepers over all to make us happy today.
(MONDAY) Today we ran an charter for Frankie and the boy s for a day of bottom fishing. By day s end the cooler was full with Ling, a limit of big Sea Bass, and other bottom dwellers. We had a small hammerhead shark follow us from wreck to wreck for a while.
Capt. Vinny Vetere, of Katfish Charters from Great Kills, said the weather was beautiful, but striper fishing was picky. Vinnie D'Anton had no luck in the river, but moved to the Belmar surf to release a couple of small bass on his Chug Bug.
