The Big Mohawk from Belmar didn't get out for blackfish today, and won't fish tomorrow, but is set for 7 a. m. Sunday. The Big Jamaica from Brielle has a limited trip on Saturday going to far offshore wrecks for cod, pollock and jumbo porgies.
Seemed like the bow had the best action today for some reason,up there Milky and Joe seemed to have blackfish chewing on most of the drops and in the end they both had 2-3 keepers and numerous shorts including Joe Joe's pool winning Piggy that went about 13-14lbs. Had 1 or 2 keepers in the back but it seemed those two guys in the bow had the best shot at em.
NOAA Fisheries has issued voluntary restrictions for both commercial and recreational fishermen to adopt this year in order to reduce pressure on mako sharks which ICCAT has determined are being overfished. NOAA Fisheries requests that Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (HMS) permit holders and tournaments voluntarily adopt the internationally recommended shortfin mako shark measures to decrease fishing mortality pending an upcoming emergency rulemaking.
Fortunately, the snowstorm didn't amount to anything along the Shore, and the forecast for later in the week looks good for fishing. The Mimi VI from Point Pleasant is sailing open for bottom fishing this week.
we are gonna be fishing offshore in the 15-20 mile range on the rocks and wrecks we did good with big blackfish and some nice codfish the past few winters when it got really cold. This area holds some big fish and it is a good spot to take down the seasonal pool which is getting bigger every week,now up around 2600 bucks.
