Had to check out some of the spots, and started the day off with a lot of nice sea bass, but alas, they all had to be returned as their season is closed. I feel it was not a good season, though we did get the bigger fish, there just were too few, did the 1 2 inch size increase make a difference in the smaller fish, probably.

The best news of the day came from the Queen Mary out of Point Pleasant as they had a good bite of big blues on both jigs and bait. Small blues on bait was the surf nrews from both Grumpy's and Betty Nick's in Seaside Park, and the latter weighed in it's first fall bass -- a 30-inch, 8 1 4-pounder by Tom Nolan of Ridgefield.

We fished a couple of different areas on the day and the guys were able to put together a catch of nice sized porgies although the guys had to pick through, and release, lots of keepers seabass in order to do it. Kevin Harding, Pearl River, NY, took the pool with a nice porgy.
