There were lots of anglers on Ocean County beaches today after the reports of big stripers being hooked there Saturday. There was also a report from a group in Island Beach State Park that had caught seven short stripers and saw a 33-incher hooked by another fisherman.
We had a nice group fishing with us today, started out with a pick at the togs, as we moved around we had a similar condition , you had to work at it, to bring the togs over the rail, the shorts were also active today. Some nice quality fish came over the rail, some had 4-5 keepers.
Good fishing for most today with some catching there limit, some with 3, 4, or 5 and a few had a tough day but overall it was good! Jimmy Lee of Palisade Park, NJ took the pool today with a 10 1 2lb Blackfish which was released!
Yet, there was a sudden rush to the beaches in the Seaside Park area today after Betty Nick's Tackle in that town posted reports of big bass in the surf this morning. Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park had an earlier report of a 38-inch, 15. 75-pound striper that hit an SP Minnow cast by Jay Thompson on Christmas Day.
The bonus tags helped tremendously, and I am hoping they keep the program going. The NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife started by giving us 50 tags for the entire fall so I was pretty stingy with them, but by November they were very short of their poundage quota so they started giving them to the Party and Charter boats as we needed them. I know that lots of you this year signed up late, and it took 3 weeks to a month to get the tag so if they keep the program going and they use the same mailing system don't hesitate to sign up because you may not get your tag in time (I'm not sure how many they are going to give the Party and Charter boats to start).
