    The captains of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association used the forced time off to tend to various items on their boats that might have needed attention.

    Last weekend Captain Ray Lopez had the Jayhee Cho party out for a trolling trip at the Barnegat Ridge. The group managed to boat multiple false albacore and one nice Bonita

    We ran offshore today and anchored up along the edge of the mud hole. Mackerel fishing was good all day long and we also had bonito and albies in the mix. For the anglers who bottom fished, they were able to stay busy with jumbo sea bass!

    Nice ground swell left over today,made for tough conditions.  Caught a few fluke here and there but it was slow.  Couple of pool fish in the 5-6lb range and few guys did have a limit of keepers but not alot to go around today.

    A youngster tried to net it with a fluke net that was really too small, but I told him the trick with a big fish and a small net is to let the angler steer the head of the fish into the waiting net held just under the surface. An older youngster leaned over and removed the jig from the net, but grabbed the casting leader to try to get his hand in the flared gill when the light freshwater leader to the 2 hook holding the jumbo finally broke -- providing the release it was going to get in any case.

    We are half day fishing for fluke everyday making two trips (8am to 12 30 and 1 30 to 6pm). The fluke season is almost over (Tuesday Sept 5 last day Sept 6 starts porgies) and the weather is looking good for the next few days so come make a trip.

    The northeast wind has kept most boats at the dock the last two days, but the Jamaica from Brielle had a good report from Monday's trip. Joe Melillo at Castaways Tackle put his day off on Sunday to good use by fishing the Bay Head surf to release a 6-pound bluefish while losing another on the Run Off Sand Eel metal, Back at the shop, he weighed a 6-pound fluke caught in the ocean by Robert Skudera of Midland Park.
