12-30-14 We headed out in deepwater today where we had some bigger fish this weekend and had some chewing pretty quick, picked some fish, actually some nice fish but all we could do was just pick at em. Certain guys were dialed in and caught fish, not everyone but scattered around the boat we had guys that ended up with between 2-4 nice Togs, some real quality including Pauly who nailed a Jumbo male that weighed in at 12lb.
Despite a poor weekend due to strong currents, the Jamaica II from Brielle had a better Monday of offshore bottom fishing for ling and some cod. Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park reports a few short stripers are being hoked in the surf on clams and small plugs -- such as the new Daiwa DS Minnows.
Had some life right off the bat with some keepers and shorts coming up on our first couple of drops. In the end, high hook had their limit of Blackfish, some with 3-5, some with 1 or 2, some with just shorts and a couple could not get it going.
Atlantic Highlands blackfishing December 29 29 December 2014 Capt. Tom Made our 7 30 am blackfishing trip from the Atlantic Highlands marina again today. The blackfishing was much better today than the past few days.
I would have been happy if half the fish we caught today were keeper size but alot were in the 14-15 inch range. Others had just shorts or maybe 1-2 or something like that,so overall decent for some and not decent for others,I stayed inbetween 80 and 50 feet today but tomorrow bring some heavier lead because I will probably heading back out to deeper water where we had some nicer fish over the weekend.
Fishing was slow early, but moving around a bit really helped as we found some nice pockets of fish at times and finished with a limit of sea bass to 5 pounds hitting the box and the average size to the fish being quite nice. Lots of nice fish came over the rail and a great day was had by all!December 6Shawn, Traci, Joe, Tom, Terry, and Tom were aboard The Bomb today for an open boat striper trip.
I tried casting at Point Pleasant in the morning today, and at Sea Girt in the afternoon but never saw a sign of a fish. The Mimi VI from Point Pleasant will be running limited 7 a. m. to 4 p. m. open bottom fishing trips through January.
