January 23, 2016 1-23-16 Saturday Due to the N. E. storm we are not fishing and also we are closing our fishing season until the coming spring. We have some work projects we need to do on the boat. Overall we had a good black fishing season.
1-23-15 Very nice out there today, flat calm and warm. .Unlike yesterday we had a nice group of great people today show up to fish. unfortunately the fish were not in the mood to chew. .Actually I take that back,,the eels and dogfish were in the mood,,They kept everyone busy today but the Togs were tough to come by. Some guys caught some,Mr. O and Mr. P were dialed in and caught some nice fish, they had around 3-4 each I believe,,but most had one or none. .Not good at all,for most anyway. Some Codfish showed up again but most were small, maybe one keepers, few ling. Overall a tough bite for most,,but a really nice day on the water,,Tomorrow we are canceled,no fishing,,Sunday is questionable but I will make that decision tomorrow.
Following is a press release from Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) Pallone Calls for Less Restrictive Policies for Summer Flounder and Sea Bass Files Formal Comment Regarding Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission Draft Proposal LONG BRANCH, NJ Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) sent a letter to Kirby Rootes-Murdy, Fishery Management Plan Coordinator for the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, regarding the Commission's Draft Addendum XXVII to the Summer Flounder, Scup and Sea Bass Fishery Management Plan. In the letter, Pallone called for fair and less restrictive policies relating to two important fisheries in New Jersey summer flounder and sea bass.
Last Friday's column noted how striped bass anglers were once again bailed out by the Hudson River spawning stock which produced consistent fishing in that river plus Raritan Bay while the coastal migratory was slow again in the spring before providing some shots of hot action off Ocean County in the fall prior to a decent showing of school stripers that worked out well for the party boat fleet due to the change to a slot bass in the bonus bass program. Surfcasters did well with those blues in that area at times, but I never saw any repeat of the spring bluefish blitz of the year before in the Bay Head to Point Pleasant area.
