I took Luis Gonzalez of Homestead, Florida down to the Sea Girt surf after the early afternoon high tide and released a 19-incher on a 6-inch Tsunami Sand Eel while Gonzalez had another small bass miss the same lure. Bob Matthews, at Fisherman's Den in Belmar Marina, also reported there were some small bass hitting in the Monmouth County surf.
MACKEREL fishing started today and the weather for late December was beautiful. There are MACKEREL around and I think the more time we put in fishing for them the more we will see.
Started where we left them biting Monday but only had a couple of fish. Made a couple of more stops with a few fish on each before moving off to some deeper water where we had our best action with keepers and shorts to finish the day.
12-26-14 Flat calm, really nice out there today, good to be back out after a break in the action for a few days. Alot of short bites today as well made it even harder, fish were hitting the bait and then just leaving it alone, alot of fish were also just nipping the baits off the hook and not giving you a good bite to swing at.
Today was an open boat Tog trip and did not know what to expect after the rain and the blow. Joe and Donald both managed to get 4 keepers a piece and everyone else had a few, it was a tough day overall.
