    Pisano opted to spend his last days at home with hospice care, and I feel fortunate to have visited him a weeks ago when he was still able to discuss the glory days of Mud Hole giant tuna fishing -- of which he was a pioneer. Though there was no surf blitz to report today, the following report from Capt. Dave De Gennaro of Hi Flier out of Barnegat indicated there are still lots of stripers in our waters Sailed today with a full Open Boat and the fishing was awesome.

    Had a light crowd of around 12 anglers today aboard the Prowler5. Pretty good action on the shorts today, but could have used some more keepers aboard.

    Atlantic Highlands blackfishing December 31 31 December 2015 Capt. Tom Made our 3 4 day blackfishing again today leaving at 7 30 am. We will be fishing tomorrow and Saturday and Sunday our regular schedule leaving at 7 30 am and returning between 2 30 and 3pm.

    12 31 15 After the tough fishing yesterday it was nice to see the fish turned back on. Green and white crabs both produced but the whites were the ticket for the bigger fish today.

    What a GREAT SEABASS bite today. Mostly ALL(couple missed seasick) had limits of Jumbo Seabass for the season ender.

    We did catch some fish on each spot we went to today, but overall, it was slow. The big fish was around 9lbs today but was not in the pool so the pool winner was around 7lbs.

    He saw bass of various sizes from shorts to 25 pounds plus 10-to-15-pound blues pushing adult bunkers up on the beaches even as the northeast wind made it difficult to cast even heavy lures. I have caught school stripers almost to the end of January some years when water temperatures didn't drop too low, but asking for another big bass blitz and even bluefish in January is truly praying for a miracle even though the water remains warm enough.

    Atlantic Highlands blackfishing December 30 30 December 2015 Capt. Tom After two days of bad weather we made our 3 4 day blackfishing trip today. We all had a good laugh today when a seagull landed on Ben's head (see gallery).

    There was a large left over swell, dirty water and a strong easterly current. Moved out into deeper water and had some action with mostly shorts to finish the day.
