Anglers fishing the surf at Island Beach State Park are enjoying the special zone created by the state that allows them to keep two fluke at a minimum of 16 inches. In Seaside Park, Betty Nick's Tackle had a video of Jon Velez with fluke of 4 1 4 and 5 pounds -- and he said he caught them among 30 fluke in the surf.
Finished the day back where we started after the current slowed and had a few more keepers to add to the coolers on the final drift of the day. Brad Weaver, Bound Brook, NJ, topped his catch with a 5 pound 5 ounce fish.
Up comes a beautiful 31 inch, 10 pound 4 ounce Pool winner, Moe's personal best along with the 3 keepers and a nice Sea Bass in the cooler. Unfortunately, Moe wasn't in the BIG POOL so Dan still has the lead at 9 pounds.
This happened a few times and we made a few moves until we started catching with 1-3 on, 3-5 on, and sometimes none. SCHEDULE UPDATE Now that the summer is winding down and the season is almost over, the Royal Miss Belmar is only sailing on Saturday Sunday from 7 30 a. m. - 12 00 p. m. 1 30 p. m. - 6 00 p. m. for the next few weekends and then it's over.
Picked away at the BIG BLUES today - I believe fishing would have been better but the conditions with everything going straight down without any current made it tough to get the lines away from the boat. Once everyone started to learn how to flip their lines out we started to catch the BIG BLUES in the 10 to 15lb range.
Capt. Stan Zagleski said he had good fluke drifting conditions most of the day as some fares had multiple keepers on Elaine B II from Highlands. Betty Nick's in Seaside Park reported lots of fluke being caught in the surf.
