Atlantic Highlands fluke fishing June 11 11 June 2014 Capt. Tom Well the weather man was wrong again today. We were still able to make both morning and afternoon trips from the Atlantic Highlands marina.
After yesterday's fine striper fishing in Raritan Bay, especially with poppers, it looked as if they might get the action they needed -- until the totally unpredicted east wind started howling. A brief attempt at chunking in Shrewsbury River didn't produce any action before the crew had to come in to film interviews -- just as the wind was moderating enough that we might have been able to search for those massive bunker schools in the bay before Knie had to move on to Montauk for another segment tomorrow.
Joe Salerno, East Hanover, NJ, had a 4 pound 11 ounce fish as his largest of the day. Ron Becker, Springfield, NJ, had a 5 pound 9 ounce fish and Joe Stefanelli, Maplewood, NJ, had a 5 pound 3 ounce fish for his largest of the day.
Capt. Mark fishing a private boat tutorial trip out of Barnegat Sunday nailed two very decent big-eyes and pulled the hook on a third in only a few hours of trolling on a day trip. Capt. Dean is still out right now with a 97 mako in the boat that we are hoping pushes 375 - he also had well over a dozen yellowfin and a couple nice bluefin.
