    The Jamaica from Brielle got out Sunday evening, and found some stripers that were livelined or jigged on the Run-Off Casting Mo-Jo. I made a few casts into the cool northwester this morning, and came up with a 19-inch striper on a Tsunami Shad while also losing a small blue at the surface.

    Tank Matraxia of Lyndhurst fished aboard the Capt. John in better conditions on Friday before the wind came up against the tide as he boated his first barely legal fluke along with three shorts and a couple of small dogfish. Capt. John Kolias reported good fluking on Saturday when he avoided the 200-boat fleet on the bay fluke to fish his own spots with Melissa Cook and her all-female charter on Reel Fun from Twin Lights Marina in Highlands.

    Capt. Rob Semkewyc changed his Sea Hunter from that port to fluking after running a Friday livelining trip that produced five stripers up to 32 pounds. Capt. Dave De Gennaro didn't have any luck trolling up to Seaside on Friday afternoon with his Hi Flier from Barnegat, but backtracked to Oyster Creek Channel where his party went two for four on hits from 14-pound stripers that hit clams.

    The Jamaica from Brielle reported catching some small blues outside the inlet this morning before moving to a school of bunkers that had stripers up to 40 pounds under it. That was in contrast to Thursday when only a few small blues were picked before a last effort at stripers produced a school of bass under bunkers that resulted in a catch of linesiders to 40 pounds on bunkers, Crocs, and the new Run-Off Casting Mo-Jo.

    The 31st annual Mako Mania Tournament, sponsored by the Greater Point Pleasant Charter Boat Association, returns to Point Pleasant this weekend with good prospects after several very large makos were boated last weekend. Matt Slobodjian at Jim's Tackle in Cape May reports Fully Loaded won last weekend's shark tournament there with a 194-pound mako, while second went to Let's Go with a 178-pound mako.

    Walter Fisher reports that The Staten Island Tuna Club, a recognized 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, is hosting a charity fishing tournament called the Armed Forces Invitational, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting catastrophically injured services members. Allen Riley of South Plainfield didn't have much hope when he fished the Sea Bright surf Tuesday morning, but his bunker baits were attacked by skates and sea robins.

    Capt. Ron Santee got off to a good start on his first fluke trip of the season with the Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands on Monday as Nate Chudy of Flemington took the seasonal pool lead right away with a 6 1 2-pound fluke, while Elisa Arnoldy of Hopatcong had the first limit out of seven legal fluke. Capt. Hans Kaspersetz took his former Presidential Billfish Tournament partner Ed Arnold of Dallas out for stripers Monday afternoon on Sheri Berri from Baker's Marina on the Bay in Highlands.

    Johnny Bucktails won Saturday's Hi-Mar Striper Club Spring Striped Bass Tournament with a two-fish total of 75. 6 pounds, but may have gotten lucky because original club member Gene Graman of Middletown didn't enter the contest with his That's It II from Sandy Hook Bay Marina in Highlands - but fished on Saturday in Ambrose Channel where Jerry Mc Menamy of Holmdel chunked a trophy bass that weighed 53 pounds, 7 ounces on the contest scale.

    Capt. Rob Semkewyc had good bluefish jigging early and late on his Sea Hunter from Atlantic Highlands The hot Friday ocean striper bite wasn't repeated Saturday, though the fortunate few did catch big bass. Capt. Bud Mc Arthur also had no luck with stripers from his Splinter out of Brick, and sea bass fishing wasn't much better while fluke weren't encountered.
