07 02 16 A lot more wind than predicted to go with the outgoing tide all day made for tough, but not impossible, drifting conditions with 8-10 ounce sinkers being required all day. A new batch of fish has either moved into the bay or at least into the channel we are fishing with guys having to work through more short action the past couple of days than we have been seeing recently.
I joined Capt. Hans Kaspersetz for a couple of hours of light tackle fluke fishing in the rivers, along with Ray Flagiello of Staten Island on Sheri Berri from Baker's Marina on the Bay in Highlands. Capt. Chris Di Stefano of Wall was aboard Frank Criscola's Crisdel from Brielle Yacht Club as they fished the Manasquan River Marlin Tuna Club Tournament without success.
Scott Leadbeater of Haddon Heights bailed out while fishing in Raritan Bay with his center console out of Atlantic Highlands when he got into surfacing 3-to-6-pound blues on light tackle as he moved toward West Bank. Capt. Stan Zagleski had catches up to four fluke on Thursday as Ken McGill of Atlantic Highlands won the pool with a 6 3 16-pounder.
