Atlantic Herring
Scientific Name: Clupea harengus
Aliasies:
- A cold water fish It is one of the most abundant fish species in the world. North Atlantic herring schools have been estimated to contain up to 4 billion fish. Herring are excellent bait for Striped Bass. They are also used for Tuna bait.
- Herring is jointly managed in state and federal waters by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and NOAA Fisheries in conjunction with the New England Fishery Management Council respectively
