Captain's Focus

With only 28 boats able to fish on the last day of the White Marlin Open at Ocean City, Md., there were only two changes to the concluding leaderboard. Sea Flame won the dolphin category and $19,717.50 by weighing a 39-pounder. Rumor Has It brought in the second place shark of 223 pounds to win $3,000. All other placings remained the same. As there were no second or third place white marlin, the winning 76.5-pounder weighed by Phil Beasley's Kallianassa won even more than the projected $2.4 million by earning $2,818,660. The 790-pound blue marlin boated the first day on Jim Conway's Get Reel earned "only" $258,995 because they weren't in the blue marlin Calcutta. By rule, with no other blues making the minimum, that money went to the tuna winner. Capt. Rich Kosztu on Hubris received much more than the projected $400,000 for his 236.5-pound bigeye by ending up with $767,091 due to the mere 3 1/2-pound lead over Magic Moment which earned "only" 131,968. Complete results will be posted tomorrow.
