Captain's Focus

I got a call about a problem opening the blog because the title was lost in the course of making changes. That blog follows: Jumbo sea bass fishing on far offshore wrecks is hitting a peak. Capt. Howard Bogan reported many sea bass limits on Friday's trip of the Jamaica from Brielle along with plenty of big porgies and some blues and cod. Cai Chen of Harrison won the pool with a 9.5-pound cod. There were mixed results on striped bass. Capt. Rob Semkewyc had poor jigging under birds from his Sea Hunter out of Atlantic Highlands, catching only two slots, a short and a blue before working on bunker pods. Bass and big blues attacked them regularly. His daughter was one of the successful anglers with a striper and jumbo blues on a white swim shad. The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant reported very good striper action as Tom Olsen caught five bass and a few blues. Dr. Pat Donnelly found the seas too rough to get out to his favorite blackfish wrecks, but the Brielle dentist switched to trolling and jigging stripers off Lavallette --though it was 5-1 big bluefish in order to get through to them. Surfcasting reports were poor in the morning, but Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park notes that the best plugging has been in the evenings just north of there. Anglers should take advantage of the good weather forecast for Monday, as there's lots of rain and south wind coming for mid-week.
