Vinny D'Anton of Wall is doing well wading near his winter home in Sarasota for spotted sea trout, but he also had some interesting news from home as one of his surfcasting friends called to report catching small stripers from the beach on the Tsunami Eel. The bass are only 18-inchers, but it's very unusual to have them hitting lures in the surf during March. That angler normally fishes north of Manasquan Inlet.
If you have a General category permit to catch giant tuna, you'd better hurry out to boat one over 73 inches curved fork length because NMFS is closing that season on Wednesday until June 1 since the January quota has been filled.
