Treasure Cay, Abacos - Bahamas Fishing Report

Bahamas White MarlinFinally getting squared away over here in the Abacos and had our first week long trip of the year. We have had unseasonably warm and calm winds over here which is rare for February.  This has slowed fishing on the edge as we expect our next strong cold front this week which should get the wahoos going again. We have still managed to get our share this week as well as some dolphin. With the edge being slow we ventured offshore this week fishing off of Hopetown near the bridge. Talking with Mitch Roffer he said that was our best shot at an unheard of billfish in February. Well we werenâ??t out there 20 minutes when we came tight on our first white marlin of the season . Crazy to see as I donâ??t think Iâ??ve ever been a part of a billfish in February. Needless to say we had a swimmer  back at the dock with his first white of his life.

On the inshore front fishing has been nothing short of spectacular with unbelievable action with yellowtails, mutton snapper to 16 lbs, cero mackerel and some very nice size amberjack. We have been fishing various ledges in the Sea of Abaco from 10 to 28 feet of water and every break has had fish. It has taken nothing more than 5 minutes after putting the chum bag in. Simply AWESOME!!!!!

Bahamas LobsterWe have also done our fair share of lobstering and conchin this week. We have a 19 key west over here which is perfect for this. We had 12 large size conchs which makes great bait as well as awesome conch salad. Lobstering has also been very productive getting at least a dozen per day when we go.

Iâ??m expecting fishing to remain slow on the edge until we get the next front which is Wednesday night. Thirty knots of NE winds will definitely liven up the edge and get the hoos snapping again. Definitely need to get some cooler weather in here and out of this 80 degree pattern that weâ??ve had. Cant ever remember such a warm , calm February.

Bahamas Mutton SnapperOn an unbelievable note this week a boat out of Marsh Harbour boated a 680 lb bluefin . I guess they are everywhere as Darrins been putting a hurting on them in Hatteras, NC. Looking forward to getting out this week.

Tight Lines!
