Winter Jigging for Bluefin, Blackfin, and Amberjacks

January has started off cold for sure, 36 here this morning, ouch! When the weather allows boats to get offshore, the Bluefin have been hit or miss. We've spent two days this year looking for them to no avail since the new year. Did catch a wahoo for our efforts, though! As we move into February the smaller school Bluefin should take up residence here, mix with the Giants and be around till mid March. This provides some awesome jigging and light tackle opportunities with Big Fish. The best of it was the last week of February and first week of March in 2010, and if things continue as they are now, the fishing will start a bit earlier this year.

Inshore the Blackfin and Amerberjack jigging has been steady, providing for lots of great action on light tackle. The striped bass are just around the corner and one more push of NE wind and cold water will have them right where we want them. The Striped Bass Fishing has been some of the best in many years, just up above Hatteras, so if you want to get in on some great Bass action, come on down!
