It’s safe to say that the bite is on! Fishing has been steady to good the last couple of weeks. The biggest bass are being taken in the Delaware Bay, where chunking fresh bunker is the name of the game. You anchor up on your favorite spot and wait for the big ones to show. Fish into the 50 pound range get taken regularly, with a lot of 25 to 30 pound fish in the mix. Fresh bait has been a bit difficult to come by, but we have managed to find what we’ve needed to get the job done. This season should last a few more weeks into early December.
Down in the Cape May Rips, the bite has really taken off lately. Good reports of 30-40 fish have been coming in steady the last couple of days. Drifting eels, spot, and bucktailing are all working right now, and these fish can be taken well into December.
On the Ocean Side, fish are being taken both trolling and jigging, with umbrella rigs and deep diving plugs working best. Diamond jigs are producing both nice Striped Bass as well as Slammer Blues. The Tautog Bite is also quite good on the ocean side and the limit is now back up to 6 per person. The Tautog are caught on near shore wrecks by anchoring and dropping down green crabs. When you get on ‘em, it’s drop and reel fishing.
