Captain Joe brought in another Bluefin on Tuesday. Here's his report:
Well what a day. We felt pretty down after breaking off a very nice fish off at the boat which was a long rigger bite. Not sure what happened but I bet we will figure it out. Anyway, we had our first bite at around 9 and then came tight on the planer rod today at 11 boating the 81 inch fish in about 25 minutes. Today’s core was 235 lb. Proud of my mates today for keeping their heads up after some tough luck this morning!

Captain Keith's report for Friday 12/18:
As the first blast of snow was moving into the northeast we worked our way off the beach to the area we had our bite the previous day. The winds were predicted to pick up during the day. We put our lines in just to the east of Big 10 and worked towards west rock. The bites over the past few days seemed to start around 6:30 am. Today it was a different story in the fleet. There were just a few bites and it sounded like three fish or so were caught…one may have been a short. We spent the day on the west side between big 10 west rock and back up on the shoal between the Shad Buoy and NW Places. The sea conditions started out nice and deteriorated during the day. I guess it was NE 25 or better by the time we reached the dock. We may get out Sunday; Monday looks like a better bet. No Bluefin bites for us today as we had Gannets and False Albacores attacking our baits. We will be starting over next trip, things changed dramatically as the bait was hard to find. The bites dropped off and we will most likely be seeing a new body of fish next week.
All in all a very quiet day for the fleet.

Well I sure wish I had something for you, however, we had no sponsors this week. As a matter of fact it was slow for the whole Island. However, this upcoming week is slammed full and the cold front is moving through and the outlook is great!! I’m anticipating a super time for the holidays. The Sails should be snapping and this should turn on the King macks that have been lurking about. Might hurt the snappers for a day or two but they will get acclimated to the cold change. The water should go from 78 to about 72 I hope. We are also looking forward to some real good Shrimping, so we’ll start doing that tonight!!!!
From me and the crew we wish you all a very Happy Holiday. Be safe and good luck with all that snow!! Please keep in mind that OU has made great strides to make your trip to the Keys fun and affordable. We have great rates with the Islander Resort so even if you aren’t fishing we can hook you up with great rates while you are visiting!! We do have a spot or two open between the holidays so keep us in mind. Remember we are also putting together split trips and that too seems to be going very well.

Key West Fishing Report |
Up until this nasty cold front (and you guys up north know EXACTLY which one I'm talking about) fishing has been excellent in the Lower Florida Keys. From sailfish to tuna to the occasional wahoo to great light tackle reef action, the offshore fishery has been great. The flats have been good as well, with permit and bonefish showing themselves while enjoying the warm weather. That all came to an end on Wednesday, when we had some of the worst weather I've experienced (sans Hurricanes) in more than 20 years in the Florida Keys. On the bright side, we're almost to the other side of this weather, the wind is going to switch out of the north, and we'll have probably the best reef and tuna fishing that we've seen all year.
Regardless of what the fishing is like, one thing you can count on here in Key West when you come fish with us is top-notch accommodations and amenities. Although we've been having customers stay there since launching our partnership with the Doubletree Grand Key Resort, we just recently fished our first group package. I'll have to admit, but I was a little apprehensive as the guy-on-the-ground here. But never fear... our partners at Grand Key, including GM Michael Knowles and Marketing guru Karen Thurman are coming through with flying colors for us, ranging from the fantastic breakfasts and box lunches they are able to prepare to the shuttle service to the great atmosphere and service at the pool bar. Abacos – Something for Everyone
We did not fish this week due to the horrible weather and instead concentrated on getting things in order for the upcoming holiday season. It is great to be back in the Bahamas seeing all our friends over here again. We did find time to jump in the water, check out a few new spots, and try our luck at spear fishing. We were able to snatch a few lobsters and I managed to spook a nice grouper and miss a big hog snapper. What can I say, I’m a little out of practice, but it sure was nice to be in the clear Bahamas blue water again.

The Reef – Diving and Fishing
We often report on the offshore pursuits that Treasure Cay and the Abaco's have to offer, and lose sight of all the other types of fishing we have here. The Abacos boasts the third largest barrier reef in the world, and has long been a premier scuba diving destination. Snorkeling and spear fishing is a fun way to break up the day and is only a very short ride away. There are plenty of spots for kids and beginners to learn in a protected environment, and have their first experience be one that will keep them coming back for more. Treasure Cay Resort and Marina operates a first class PADI dive operation, and Brent at Treasure Divers really knows how to take care of his customers. So, if scuba diving or snorkeling is on your Christmas list, Treasure Cay has you covered. |

Bahamas Grouper and Snapper Fishing
With such an enormous reef system, there is obviously some wonderful grouper and snapper fishing to be had. Out front, we often troll deep diving stretch plugs, or drop a jig, for grouper. When the weather makes going out front uncomfortable, we have also had some luck trolling for grouper on the edge of ship channel which was dredged for the cruise ships years ago. Tasty black grouper tend to congregate around the edge of the channel. Another favorite of ours, is to anchor up on a nice piece of bottom in the Sea of Abaco, and catch tasty snappers for dinner. Both yellowtail and mutton snapper are abundant in the Sea of Abaco. Snapper fishing is good year round, and a bag of chum can really get them going. When we are anchored up, snapper fishing, we often get some good shots at grouper too, especially when we can castnet live ballyhoo. |

Bahamas Bone Fishing
Another great option the Abaco’s has to offer is incredible bone fishing. There are many great guide services in the Abaco’s and several locations and methods to fish for them. Both Fly Fishing and light spinning tackle will work. The Marles on the west side of the island offers many shots at bonefish and some protection from the winter breezes we get this time of year. Another great area for bone fishing is Green Turtle Cay, where there are vast flats, that again, are often protected from the wind in the Winter. |

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report |
| This week has sent us great weather and great fishing. We had Don and Justin from New Orleans fishing with us for two days this week. The first day we fished we found quite a few dolphin and some Skip Jack Tunas. On day two we made a long run down south and found great current and beautiful blue water. We threw the kites up and started catching Dolphin and Kingfish right off the bat. About an hour into the trip we started hooking sailfish, we caught a double header sailfish and as we were releasing the second one we were able to hook another on a spinning rod. We ended the day catching 10-11 sailfish and lots of dolphin and kings mixed in.
Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Rob and his son Peter from West Palm Beach. We picked up our bait and ran back down south where fishing has been pretty darn good. It was really bumpy today with the North wind and the 50 degree air outside. We had high hopes and were not disappointed. As we were shooting out the kites we had a sail swim right up to the boat and Peter was able to hook and make quick work of him. We quickly got all the baits out and started catching fish. We spent the morning catching 7 sailfish and 2 dolphin. It was a great half day of fishing on the 45’ Cabo Express. With the strong coldfront and north wind for the next few days we are expecting to keep seeing lots of sailfish and dolphin.
