New Jersey Fishing Report

Great Week!!

Well, the weather finally allowed us to get in a bunch of trips in the past week or so fishing from the Hudson Canyon all the way down to the Poormans. After our long trip last week to the Hudson we concentrated on fishing our local canyons. Sunday and Monday we fished the Wilmington finding a break from 71 to 74.5 degrees. Upon getting there, there was a lot of life on the warm side getting into some yellowfins and a great wahoo bite boating three up to 60 lbs. At night drifting in the same area produced nothing. Back up on the troll we picked another hoo and some yellows to 30 lbs.
Back out we again went to the Wilmington and really concentrated on fishing for swords at night. My favorite place to fish for them is the east bite in the Wilmington. We short drifted the area throughout the night going 1 for 2 on some very nice fish boating one in the 170 lb class. Back up on the troll in the am we looked for the break we were fishing the previous day. It had moved down to the 370 line near the Baltimore canyon. Once finding it we quickly put some yellowfin in the box.

On our most recent trip we headed to the Poormans. Fishing these small breaks that seem to be everywhere is the key. We found a break from 73.5 to 74.7 that was littered with white marlin, wahoo, dolphin and yellowfin. We never left a two mile area all day. We were fishing 40 fathoms on about the 130 line. This day however the fish seemed to be more congregated on the colder side. We had excellent fishing seeing at least 12 whites and one blue marlin.
Fishing has drastically improved over the past two weeks with a good mixed bag of fish. The chunk bite has finally started up in the Hudson and we are hoping it starts filtering down this way. Unfortunately, we are socked in for the next couple days with weather but should get out later in the week. Until then, tight lines!

South Florida Fishing Report

This week brought us 4 good nights of swordfishing. We fished Monday night and were able to catch 2 out of 3 swordfish. All three fish were right around 100lbs. On Tuesday night we went 1 for 2 catching a 150lber! On Wednesday we daytime fished for swordfish off Ft. Lauderdale. We went 1 for 6 releasing a 100lb fish and pulling the hooks on the other 5 fish right off the bat. We decided to stay out Wednesday night to try for the night bite, but never got a bite.

This past weekend was the Miami Swordfish Tournament. We had Adam and Ryan fishing the tourney with us. On the first night we fished straight out of Miami. We never had a swordfish bite all night long. The first night resulted in many shark releases and no swordfish releases for the whole fleet. The second night we decided to make a run up north to Ft. Lauderdale to see if we could have some better luck. We missed 1 fish in the first hour of fishing then it was slow for the next 4 hours having squid tearing up most of our baits all night long. We had 1 more bite but the fish was wrapped up and came unglued in just a few minutes. It was a very slow tournament for just about everyone with only 4 swordfish caught in 2 nights of fishing.

We are very excited for our sailfish season to start in November. Last season was one of the best sailfish seasons I have seen down here. We had many days catching 10+ fish and 2 days catching over 20 fish! So come down to South Florida and take your shot!

A Day in the Life of OU

The OU Crew had a chance to get OUt the other night. We started off at Bill May's for an awesome dinner. Thanks Bill & Marnie!!! Then off to the Princeton...thanks to the bartender for getting this shot. It's rare to get us all out at the same time so it was a good time! And we even had Trey out 'til 4am!!!
