Over Under - Viewing Report 2009-08-13 - Tautog Fishing Report - First Blackfish Trip of Season On Tuesday we did a little experimenting on our half day inshore trip. We'd been investigating a local wreck about 3 miles off the beach and it had seemed to be holding fish. We managed to get an anchor down on the wreck and it was well worth the effort. We stayed about an hour and caught about 10 Tautog. We kept 3 with the biggest being about 3.5 pounds, with all being taken on cut up fresh crab. The Tautog fishing should only improve over the course of the next several months and with a bit more time, we have a large number of wrecks that are likely holding fish within easy strking distance. We are ready to run fully dedicated Tautog Fishing Charters if anyone would like to specifically target these tasty fish. The run is short, only 3-6 miles, and the action is good. The toughest thinga about Tautog Fishing, also known as Blackfish, is anchoring on top of the wreck. You have to be right on top of it.
