2009-08-07 - Wow what a day!! 16hr NJ Trip brings tons of action!
8/6/09
We Fished a 16 hr day trip hooking two bluefin in the 65" range, one on a jig which came unbuttoned after 10 minutes and hooked one shortly after on a chunk bait. We fought for two hours and had it to the boat 2x's, approximately 65", then the hook pulled. It happens! The charter was happy to see and fight it. We had a great group on the boat as they kept a positive attitude. We went on the troll and caught two Mahi, one 20lb female and one smaller one. It looked like the bluefin bite was over. We then ran 18 miles to look for some Yellowfin. We put our spread out and a 50 lb yellowfin exploded on our spreader bar and we caught him. We continued to troll and had good yellowfin action! They were coming up five or six at once and short biting our ballyhoo. We boated a real nice White Marlin in between the tuna bites which gave us a few nice head shakes during the fight. We then boated two yellowfin, then a monster Blue Marlin blew up on our long rigger! It didn't come tight; missed the hook. When we reeled in our last Yellowfin we had two whites in the spread. We ran out of time as I had to leave. If we had given more time in this area we would have crushed em. We fished there for about 2.5 hours and left them biting.
