Well, things certainly have gotten off to a great start in the North East this season.  Half way through our season, our crews have put together some spectacular catches and continue on tearing up the tournament scene.  The only disappointment, if you can call it that, was a fairly slow shark season, with not that many Makos and Threshers. The season seemed to end rather abruptly, but the good news was that the Tuna showed early.  The Bluefin bite has been quite good and the showing of the Yellowfin has been a welcome surprise. 

Even more of a pleasant surprise is the number of Billfish we've caught.  Three Blue Marlin and a White Marlin in One Trip?  Two Blues and a White in another?  Wow....now that's some good fishing.  Capt. John's first place tuna in the Ocean City Tuna Tournament sure drew some attention, and the guys in NJ followed it up with a nice second place showing in the Cape May Tuna Tournament, and then ran the board in the Jersey Shore Classic with some monster fish. 

We are now into August and things will start to change.  We should see even more billfish and yellowfin as we move through August and into September, and the dolphin fishing should do nothing but improve as well.  The Bluefin are showing signs of slowing down, but that is to be expected with mid summer water temperatures here for the next month or so. 

What will the late summer and fall overnight tuna season bring?  We are all crossing our fingers for a great second half to the North East Canyon Season.  Time will tell, but if the current conditions are any indication of what we are in store for, things might be pretty darn good!

Well, after two months of pretty good fishing, things here in OC have slowed. However, the bright side is the Marlins are biting pretty well. This was a very hard week, between the fishing and the horrible weather we didn’t stand much of a chance. We were able to fish every other day this week and we had some success.

Tuesday we had a pair of Wahoo’s and Thursday we had several gaffers and one White Marlin. All our time this week was spent inside 35 fathoms. The water seemed to be different each day, and the bait has been plentiful, however, the tunas have not. Next we are getting ready for the start of the WMO and looking forward to a fun week of fishing. Sorry this week’s report so blah, I’m sure we will have lots of good stuff for you at the end of this coming week!

That's all she wrote for the Bahamas this season. After some slow fishing and the end of our family vacation/cruising schedule, the OVER UNDER is back in Key Largo to sit out hurricane season.  We made the decision to call it a day last week, and made the journey from Treasure Cay back to Key Largo. 

On the way, I passed one nice school of Yellowfin just north of Hole in the Wall, but like the other couple schools I'd encountered earlier in the week, they were up for a minute or two, then sounded.  The water is 87 degrees on the surface, so the pelagics are only coming up to feed quickly, then going back down into the cooler water below.  Tough fishing conditions.  We'd have liked to have stayed a bit longer for the opening of lobster season on August 1st, but schedules just didn't allow this year.  Look for OVER UNDER to start back up in the Abacos in October/November, and we will be scheduling dates in San Salvador and Cat Island for both Wahoo in the winter and the Spring time for Billfish, Tuna and Dolphin.
