Ocean City, MD Fishing Report

Wow what an end to a long week!!! How about those boys up there in Avalon, NICE JOB!!!

Us, well we closed the week out with a super day ourselves. Two Blue Marlins, 200lb and 450lb’ers and a Whitey to boot!! We also had several nice Gaffer Dolphins as there were no Tuna bites for us today.

The conditions have been changing very quickly all week, for example the first of the week we still had the Bluefins…but just the larger flavor, the smalls have moved on. The water was green with streaks of clean and dirty; temperature was 73.5 and varied from there. The end of the week we had very clean green, with just a touch of blue in it and temps were from 73.8 to 76.

Then....out with the Bluefins and in with the Marlins! On Saturday morning there were a quick dozen or so Whiteys caught on the Hambone, as well as several Blue ones just outside the Hot Dog in 30 Fathoms of water. Out there it was clean blue 75 and green 73.6 clean.

We did manage to get in our overnight in the midst of all the regular trips and it went great! We drifted all night and caught a nice assortment of sharks and several Dolphins. A Dusky and two Blue sharks, as well as, a small mako which was released and lastly a 200lb Tiger shark. Plenty of action all night!

In the am we got very lucky with catching a few small Bluefin just outside Massey’s. We had a hunch and it paid off!! Trolled a few more Dolphin and called it a day. The middle of the week we managed to find some Yellowfins roaming around in 35 Fathoms. There were both some small throw backs and several nicer class fish from 40 to 50lb mixed in.

Overall the week went well and everybody came home happy!

Tight Lines!!!

I am hooked (pun intented) on over and under. The whole experience was just outstanding. I hoped you guys liked the hoagies (from pa.).If i had to rate over and under on a scale it would be a 10. So once again thanks for the outstanding time and you will see us next year.

New Jersey Fishing Report

Another Great Week in New Jersey - Pretty Work & Low Profile take first & second at South Jersey Classic!!

Bluefin Bite is ON!!!!

OU stays hot taking another tournament win under their belt for the year. We had both Pretty Work and Low Profile booked for the Jersey Shore Classic. It didn’t take long as setting our lines out we both had some nice fish on . We made quick work of our 68 inch fish while Pretty Work was in for a battle. Sometimes when these fish get hooked in the nose they seem to battle for hours and they landed their 70 inch fish after a 5 hour fight. Back at the scales Low Profiles' fish weighed 161 while Pretty Work weighed 171. These fish are the two biggest fish ever weighed in the Jersey Shore Classics 13 year history. We would like to thank Sean for putting up a great event as normal with proceeds going to a great cause.

We had a good amount of 12 hour trips this week with the bluefin bite red hot. This week we boated fish to 70 inches on the Pretty Work and Low Profile. So far we have remained with trolling for these fish with great success. We have concentrated fishing around the Lobster Claw area. All of our bites are coming on horse ballyhoo trolling with a sea witch skirt with crystal being the color of choice.

On Thursday we had both boats out and had unbelievable fishing. Pretty Work pulled off a couple fish in the morning and shortly after we both boated some nice yellowfin up to 35 lbs. Around ten we both got hot and heavy into the action and hooked up to triple headers of bluefins to 70 inches. We landed all 6 between the boats with all fish between 65 and 70 inches. We also continue to land some dolphin every day in this same area.

We expect the bluefin bite to remain red hot for the upcoming weeks. We continue to watch a nice eddy coming in from the northern canyons with yellowfin, marlin and dolphin in the mix. Till next week tight lines. We will be putting a crew together for the WMO fishing for these tuna so stay tuned!!!!

From our customers....

Last Thursday, myself and 5 colleagues (coworkers and 2 visiting vendors from Texas) fished with Anthony and Eric on the Pretty Work out of Avalon. The weather was horrible but the fishing was incredible. As soon as we got the gear in the water, we hit a big bite but lost it after about 40 minutes of fighting. Next we bagged a 40 pound yellow fin along with a dolphin. Then a few more lost big bites. The day dragged on and the weather continued to deteriorate. We were hit with a torrential down pour and high winds. Just when we thought Anthony was turning the boat towards home, we hit a triple. 3 Big blue fins on all at once. We bagged a big one (180 pounds or so) and let the others go. What a trip. We got beat up coming back home but Anthony kept us safe. What a day. I don't normally look forward to Mondays but I can hardly wait to get to work and tell those who declined my invite what kind of day we had. Your guys run a great outfit.

Regards!

Bahamas Fishing Report

Abacos Family Vacation - Treasure Cay Resort & Marina

I had the opportunity to host a family from Stone Harbor, NJ in Treasure Cay this week. The vacation was a surprise 50th birthday present for the father. This is a family that fishes with us in NJ, so needless to say, when Dad saw the OVER UNDER with me aboard when he arrived, it was pretty neat.

We decided to head offshore the first day and see if there might be a late season Blue Marlin hanging around for us. As soon as we cleared the headpin we encountered a pretty bad squall and were taking 25 knots or so, on the bow. We decided to duck into the recently opened Bakers Bay Marina on Guana Cay to check out their progress. WOW! The place is incredible. Definitely a place to watch as they continue to get that place whipped into shape. This is definitely one of the nicest marinas anywhere, let alone the Bahamas. After sitting out the squall in Bakers, we ran down to Man-O-War Cut and headed out. It was still blowing 20 knots, so it was pretty snotty. I pointed it NE and we rode in the trough till we were in 500 fathoms, then we pretty much trolled down sea to the north for most of the morning. While we were putting the spread out, we quickly got ambushed by a nice 25 pound cow dolphin that ate an orange and black Moldcraft up tight, on a flatline. It was a great bite and we all saw it. I was thinking..hey, maybe this is gonna be ok. It's pretty late in the season and the water is 84 to 87 degrees, pretty warm. Well, that was the last and only bite of the day. We weren't able to get down to the corner off of Hopetown like we had planned due to the nasty winds, so we did the best we could and enjoyed a comfortable day fishing on the Over Under. I had forgotten what a great fishing platform the 54 Bertram is..boy, is it nice when it gets sloppy.

The second day, the weather was much better and we loaded the whole family up, and Bradley (our local mate) jumped in our 19' Key West and we headed off to Guana Cay for a day of snorkeling, conching, and relaxing. What a super day as the sun came out and we enjoyed the fabulous reefs around Guana cay. We pretty much saw it all, Grouper, Lobster, even a school of Squid! That was a first for me. Bradley towed a few of us around and we found half a dozen conch that are now being made into fresh conch salad, Bahamian Style! We ended the day with a late lunch at Grabbers Beach Bar, before heading back to Treasure Cay for the night.

ur next day brought more fabulous summer weather and the guys decided it was a good day to do a couple tank dives. They headed out with Treasure Divers for the morning and the plan was to meet up with them out on the reef after their dives and pick them up with the ladies. Bradley and I loaded our tender with a cooler full of drinks and set off with the ladies for Man-O-War Cay for a bit of sightseeing. We grabbed lunch to go and then met up with the Dive Boat off of Guana Cay. After anchoring in the Bakers Bay Cove for lunch, we ran over to Green Turtle Cay and went into town, toured the sites, and visited Miss Emily's Blue Bee Bar, home of the original “Goombay Smash”!

With the sightseeing and diving out of our system, the next day we headed back offshore looking for a late season Blue Marlin. We ran south off of Hopetown to start, finding some good rips and weed lines right away, but no real signs of life in them. We moved to the deep and finally caught a brief glimpse of some nice Yellowfin as they crashed bait for a few seconds. They were moving fast and we had no chance to catch them, unfortunately. We had one mystery bite in that same area, most likely a small billfish, that came unglued quickly. Trolling back to the north we discovered a school of Blackfin Tuna and brought two to the boat, before we decided to go deep dropping to finish the day. We struggled a bit on the slack tide, but caught a handful of Yellow-Eye Snapper for dinner. Fishing has slowed considerably offshore as the water is now in the 85-88 degree range, but the reefs are still full of snapper and lobster season opens in 5 days!

Today, we all will take the day off and most likely go over to Nippers Beach Bar on Guana Cay. Rumor has it the “Barefoot Man” is playing over there and it should be quite the party!

For now, Tight Lines!
Captain Trey Rhyne
