Tuna and Billfish Combo
As you'll read below, we are starting to see more billfish in the North East Canyons. Typically we see a much larger number of White Marlin to Blue Marlin, probably about 15 to 1. Catching three Blue Marlin on a trip in NJ is quite a feat for sure and not something I've heard of, although I'm sure it's been done. The main point is that now is the time to start thinking of running to the edge if you want a shot at both tuna and marlin. They are mixed together from 70 to 120 fathoms, which puts them right in our strike zone. If the fish stay where they are, we can likely catch a bluefin or two on the way in and out as well. More and more dolphin are being brought back to the dock as well, and this trend should continue well into August. The next couple weeks should offer some great opportunties to target a variety of Pelagics in the North East Canyons and it looks like we are in for another batch of great weather! |

JERSEY SHORE CLASSIC - 2nd OPEN BOAT - JULY 26, 2009 |
The open boat we had scheduled for theJersey Shore Classic on Saturday filled up really quickly so we're going for a 2nd one on Sunday. Fishing will be on the PRETTY WORK, our 46' Whiticar at $300/person on Sunday, July 26. We will pull out of Avalon Pointe Marina at 3am and fish until 3:30pm.

Ocean City, MD Fishing Report

| The Bluefin are still doing it for most of the week. Most of our time has been spent fishing all around what I like to call the "Deli Department"!! The bigger bluefins have been still in the 120lb to 160lb fish and the shorts are coming either 40 to 46 inches so that’s about a 50 lb’er. The water temps are anywhere from 72 to 75. We have had new water push in from the south, very hard current in the middle of week. The weekend has been tough lots of boats and few fish. We managed to work it out though with some nice gaffer dolphin and our two bluefins every day except for Thursday and today, Sunday. However, there seemed to be some good news up north so hopefully, we can get back to some Yellowfins real soon. |

New Jersey Fishing Report

A Great Week in New Jersey - Pretty Work takes second at Mid-Atlantic Tuna Tournament and Low Profile has an unbelievable 46 hour double overnighter!!
Whew!!! What a week we had up here in NJ! Low Profile came off of a 48 hour with such a trip to remember. It may be the best trip I’ve ever had up here as it was amazing to see so many marlin and tuna in the same area… More on this in a bit.
The latter part of the week saw Pretty Work fishing the Mid-Atlantic Tuna Tourney. After a slow first day fishing on the NE corner of the hambone, we opted to head off and look for the yellowfins. Shortly into the day we ran over a couple nice ones landing 2 of the 3 hooked. We stayed in the area for a good bit just boating a ton of little ones. We opted to head for the scales at one so they didn’t lose any weight. At SJ marina the fish weighed 50 and 53 lbs respectively. We managed to hold on for second place and wound up being yet another tourney win for the OU crew! We have been doing very respectable in the tourneys this year and are still open for the MA 500 so please call me at 215-740-5372 with any questions.
Back to the 48 hour. We have been following some water now here for some time that has been filtering down from Toms Canyon. We located it on Monday before our long trip and headed for the 600 line in the Spencer canyon. It didn’t take long before we got covered up with the little tunas. We did not boat any fish on Monday and released a ton. At night we released a hammerhead and about a 100 lb mako. On a great note we got the tunas going on the chunk and jigs about 3 am and it was all you wanted till about 6 am of the throwback tunas.
Now it was game on …. Up on the troll it didn’t take long before a blue marlin crashed the spread and he was hooked up. An hour into the fish we released the 250 lb blue. Putting the spreader bar back in the water we had another one come up on it and we successfully pitched him a bait and made quick work of our second blue at about 325 lbs. Next we start getting into the tuna and it was red hot boating 8 or 9 to about 55 lbs. I couldn’t believe the amount of life in the area. By this time the water had slid down to around the 540 line of the Spencer and it was Bahamas blue water being 73.6. The afternoon slowed a bit with just a rat white until yet another blue crashed the spread and this was our nicest fish of the day making quick work and releasing the 400 lb fish in 10 minutes. It was just one of those days where I just can't say enough. I will surely never forget it!!! Up on the chunk we were trying to get a mako and it was a slow night releasing just one small one.
At about 4 am as we were heading in I opted to stop at the Lobster Claw for some bluefin. Ten minutes in we got a double header to cap off an unbelievable trip. Both fish were over at 63 and 55 inches as we gaffed the smaller one as he came to the boat first. The water that we were fishing is still at about the 530 line north of the Wilmington but it has pushed off to the 500 line with these westerly winds. Hopefully we get some east winds to help bring it back in. This remains some of the best water I have seen in many years.

Florida Keys Fishing Report |
Hello from Islamorada! We had a great week down here. The weather is beautiful, the skies are blue, the sun is shining and we're catching some crazy amounts of fish. We started the week off in the Gulf, looking for gag groupers on a few wrecks. We had luck with some 15 pound Jacks, spotted some Cobia and Tarpon and ended up hooking some Goliath Groupers. The winds were light out of the east with flat calm seas averaging around 83 degree water temperature.
End of week was full of lots of pole-bending action. I had a half day out with more luck on the tail end by Alligator Lighthouse. The conditions were crystal clear, with a total repeat of the last few days. We ended up catching about 15 Barracuda, putting a smile on everyone's face.
