June is shaping up to be the busiest month of the year for us at Over Under, with boats fishing out of all our locations. Weather is typically great this time of year and as the kids get out of school and summer vacations begin, there are lots of great options on where to go fishing. Many of our fisheries typically peak in June, such as Shark Action in the NE, Blue Marlin in the Bahamas, and Tarpon in the Keys. An unusually bad week of Summer weather has plagued our NE fishing however, while the conditions are about the opposite in Florida and the Bahamas. Slicky clam conditions are actually making it almost too nice to fish right now. Definitely the highlight of the week was the monster swordfish boated in the Keys. For those of you who haven't heard, we have a great swordfishery in Florida and can do it either in the daytime or nighttime. Listen to Capt. Ocean City, MD Fishing Report

It sure is nice to be back in Ocean City and arriving with high expectations for a great season. The beginning of week brought great promise with lots of small yellowfins all along the 100 fathom line between South Poormans and about the 800 square just above the Washington canyon. The water that seemed to be holding the bait was 68 to 69 degrees clean green and at times became hard to get a spread back in behind the boat with so many bites. The spreader bar and naked ballyhoos did the trick.
Great charter fishing; plenty of throw backs about 4 to 1 on, grabbing a keeper, lots of 26” fish. Inshore there were some bluefins….90% small 39” to 45” with the water 66 degrees and very clean green. Places like the Hambone up north and the Lumpy bottom down to our south are starting to hold more bait like sand eels and small squids. However, I feel the fish are still moving about everyday with no real consistency as of late, seeing lots of fish cutting on top and moving fast.
As the end of the week approached us most guys were shark fishing in a tournament. We did some ourselves and had plenty of success with the blue sharks and dusky’s however no makos for us. Not fishing in the tournament rather just charter fishing this weekend I couldn’t wait to get back out to the yellowfins. One small problem…the WEATHER sorta got us…Friday was perfect almost too nice.
There were fish caught in the Norfolk and down to the 250 line all in 100 fathoms or better. Again mostly small fish, however the further south you went the bigger the tuna would get. Heard of some nice 50 and 60lber’s caught and even for some of us up this way found a few 35 and 40lber’s on the deep rod. However, as the front approached the winds gently switched around to the SW and game over by late in the day….bummer!

We did manage to get our overnighter in…we just had to start after our day trip. Phew! The weather held off just long enough for us to get back in by noon, now it’s bad. Anyhow we had a great group from Fairfax,Va. . We had a blast, plenty of shark which is what they wanted so we put them on ‘em! Plenty of the blue dogs and again no mako…ahhh, next time.
In the morning we got real lucky with blufins, they popped up for about an hour and then they were gone. The bluefish action was pretty good too. Nothing better than getting covered up with the bluefish when you’re tuna fishing. Oh ya, I heard the guys down in the Norfolk on Friday getting them out in 100 fathoms or so. Looking forward to a super week , we get to get back at it on Tuesday after the weather breaks. |

New Jersey Fishing Report

There continue to be reports of Yellowfin along the 100 fathom curve from the Tom's Canyon southward. The water seems to be moving in a southerly direction, and although no one has been out there in a few days, it appears that the best chance for good action is in one of our favorite honey holes between the East Bite of the Wilmington Canyon, on up to the Spencer Canyon. All of our offshore trips got rained or blown out this week, as the weather has been unusually wet and windy for June. Sporadic reports of Bluefin Tuna continue to come in, although we've heard some skunk reports as well. Capt. John seems to be dialed into them as of late and is finding them at first light on places like the Hambone and lumps nearby. The shark action seems to be ok, although the Bluefish are nowhere to be found all of a sudden. Seems that the bulk of the Blues are now up off the Barnegate Ridge already. Inshore, the kids have been having fun catching their share of flounder in the back bays. The keeper to throw-back ratio is tough in the back, but the action is quite good on the right tide. We have plenty of both inshore and offshore action planned for the week, so hopefully we will get a break from mother nature and have more good updates throughout the week. If the weather cooperates, we will do an Open Boat Canyon Overnight this coming weekend, and have an open boat day Tuna trip on the books for Wednesday. If anyone wants to get out, give us a shout! Bahamas Fishing Report |
The weather has been mostly sunny and the seas have been calm all week in the Abacos, however, unfortunately, the fishing has been slow.
This week we had some guys from Oklahoma for three days. We trolled offshore for two days and other than bait, weedlines, and blue water we only caught one small yellowfin tuna and one skipjack so on the third day we stayed in and deep dropped in 500-700ft out front of Guana and caught some nice yellow eye snapper and a small thresher shark. After a delicious lunch at Bakers Bay on nearby Guana Cay it was back out in the sea of Abaco where we caught yellow tails and a nice mutton snapper. Having fished many days on his own boat Bob knows why they call it “fishing” and not “catching”.
The last two days we had another charter and headed back offshore to look for the big one. Had some skipjacks in the baits but no dolphin or tunas anywhere. We went and covered many miles from Whale up to Nunjack and out to an area called Flat Top. We did, however, have a 300-400lb blue marlin come up and whack a Rick’s Fancy right off the transom in 3500ft of cobalt blue water. But the fight was over before we could get all of the other lines in when the hook pulled.
Tomorrow it’s back out and maybe things will pick up again. I'm sure the offshore fishing will pick up again but it's hard to complain about calm seas and sunshine. |

| Well, this last week in the Gulf was a little slow but still good.
There was three or four goliath groupers and the redfish bite and snook bite was just fine. The spotted trout bite was great up by the Bridges and the tarpon bite was very good too. We had such nice fish on this week!
I did go offshore and had a great day. The dolphin were snapping! We had a nice bill and a 26lb wahoo. It was a great week to be in the Keys fishing. |
