2009-05-31 - New Jeresey Fishing Report
Avalon, NJ Fishing Report
As summer rolls into gear here in South Jersey, the fishing continues to improve each week. Over in the Delaware Bay, the Drum bite continues to be steady. Fish from 30 to 70 pounds are being taking on 20 to 30 pound gear, using primarily shucked clams. Anchoring up and chunking, much like we do for tuna, is the primary method of targeting Drum in the Delaware Bay. For those who havenâ??t tried it, now is the perfect time to tangle with 50 pound fish 6 miles from the dock! In the back bays, the flounder bite is going strong, with lots of shorts, and plenty of keepers mixed in and the Stripes are beginning to respond to some top water plugs. There is little to report off the beach right now, but a bit further offshore, reports of an occasional Bluefin Tuna are kreeping in. Further off in the Canyons, again the occasional Bluefin Tuna is being reported, but the Tile Fishing is red-hot in the Wilmington and Baltimore Canyons. Shark action is also picking up in the canyons, as some warmer, 68 to 70 degree water, is beginning to work its way in from behind the Baltimore and Wilmington Canyon.
Tight Lines,
Capt. Trey
