2009-02-11 - Bahamas Bite Insane
Bahamas Bite Insane After the coldest front of the year last week with temps in the upper 40â??s , fishing has gotten unbelievable. The water temps are now in the 72 degree range , the coldest I can ever remember having over here. After the cold snap fishing has got insane. The dolphin have moved into the area early this year while the wahoo bite remains fantastic. There has also been a yellowfin or two on daily trips. On Saturday we fished in very rough conditions once the wind finally cam from the east. We were greeted with some 8 foot seas but that didnâ??t bother the fish . We quickly went 3 for 5 on dolphin to 25 lbs. while setting the lines out. Fishing on the North side of Guana Cay we had a lull in the action so I decided to head down to one of my favorite haunts off of Man O War Cay. It didnâ??t take long once I got to my honey whole as we had a nice wahoo bite on our deep rod. The 52 lb fish bit a billy bait ballyhoo combo . We quickly circled around and had two more single hoo bites boating both of them being in the 25 lb range. The rest of the day was spent bailing some nice dolphin in the 15 to 25 lb range. We ended the day catching 3 wahoo, 2 yellowfin and about 15 or so dolphin. Today we got out and fishing remained off the hook. Getting our first lines set we got covered up with wahoo going 4 -6 . For some reason over the past week wahoo have not been touching our yozuri plugs. I have been strictly fishing all baits for the hoos , even on our deep rods. The best bet has been the billy bait ballyhoo combo . I think this is the first time I have ever strictly fished baits here for wahoo. After catching the wahoo we continued on getting into a fast and furious dolphin action catching and releasing well over 20 today. It was amazing. As soon as you could get the baits out they were there. It was so good we started trolling squids behind our islanders as it didnâ??t matter anymore. And this was on a half day trip!!! Unbelievable! I expect this insane bite to continue as long as the easterly flow is here. Time to get to the Bahamas!
