2007-02-25 - Islamorada and Bahamas Fishing Report
San Salvador Bahamas

The LOW PROFILE began fishing out of San Salvador last week. The first day out, the wahoo were snappin pretty good and we manged to put 3 in the boat and lost a larger one at the transom. The biggest fish boated was 77#, and we saw a couple 100# class fish come to the dock the days before we started fishing. The second day, the wahoo were a no-show, but we had some great dolphin action, catching 6 all between 22-28#, along with some blackfin tuna. The following two days were a blow-out as a strong cold front poured through the bahamas and made conditions unfishable. The boat and crew are back out at it right now and we'll report back next week with more results. We expect the wahoo bite to continue through mid to late March, before the dolphin, tuna, and billfish start to dominate the action. This season the water is unseasonably warm however, at 80 degrees, so we might see an early billfish bite, like we did two seasons ago.

Islamorada, Florida Keys

Early this week, we had good offhsore action, with the PRETTY WORK catching Sailfish, Cobia, and King Mackeral. The Mackeral turned on really well for us on Wednesday and Thursday's trip this week, as some of the bigger fish showed up. We caught 2 that went 30 and 40 pounds. Friday's trip saw flag yellowtails coming over the rail with fish up to 3lb's being caught. Overall, it was a great week of weather and fishing in Islamorada. We also got out for swordfish one night this week and caught a pair, missing a couple others and releasing a couple sharks as well.
