2006-03-08 - Bahamas Wahoo Fishing Report
The season started off a bit on the slow side in early February, but as of late, things have definitely turned on for the better. The larger fish are now HERE and coming over the rail. This past weekend, we ran a long range excursion trip to Crooked Island, Diana Bank, and the Acklins. We had about 7 wahoo bites both days fishing on Diana Bank, catching 5 Hoos, the largest of which measured 68", and was estimtated at about 80#. The other fish were all in the 40-50# range. We also caught a handfull of dolphin, all going 20-40#. At night we did a bit of bottom fishing and caught some nice flag yellowtails, and we dropped a few times on the bank and did real well on black snapper, button snapper, and yellow eyes. Back at Cat Island yesterday, we got 3 Hoos to the boat, the largest of which measured 73" and tipped the scales at 94.5 Pounds! The photo below is of the largest of the fish taken on Diana Bank. The fish was one of a double header, which resulted in one pulled hook and the other fish boated. The fish was taken on a green and black Bluewater Lure from Ray's Offshore in Boca.
