2006-01-08 - Islamorada Sailfish Report & Morehead City Giant Bluefin Report

First the good news. The sailfish bite is on FIRE! Yesterday boats fishing in the local tournament had as many as 16 fish. All the action was off of Islamorada in about 160 feet of water in front of E Marker. Both live ballyhoo and pilchards worked well. We've had a consistently good bite over the last week, and the cold front that just went through really got em chewin'. Here are a couple of recent photos from the Over Under Too and Pretty Work.

Up in Morehead City the bite remains slow for the Giant Bluefin. We did manage to catch 2 of the only fish caught last week, although both came up a few inches short and had to be released. One fish which measured 71" was a fatty, being estimated at 250#. The hookup was a double header, on horse ballyhoo, being trolled deep on planers. The conditions appear to be getting better as more frequent hookups are being reported. We have also caught several big King Mackeral and Dolplhin while out fishing for the Giants these past few days.
