2005-12-18 - Islamorada Fishing Report & Morhead City Fishing Report - December 18, 2005
Out of Bud N' Mary's in Islamorada this week, the sailfish bite got hot and heavy. Thursday and Friday were the best days, with as many as 20 fish being caught by a few boats on Thursday. Friday's action was again good, but not quite as red hot as Thursday. The sails have been anywhere from 100' to 250' of water, feeding on schools of sardines. We had a great week of weather here in the keys with temperatures in the upper 70's and fairly light winds. If you are looking to go sailfishing in the keys, now's a great time to get out. Up in Morehead City, we got out twice this week and boated a 78" fish that weighed about 270#. That fish was one of 3 bites we had for the day. Unfortunately the other two never came tight. Most of the action has been near the "big 10 & little 10". The bait has been getting better and there have also been some good temperature breaks that have been holding fish. On the second day we fished this week, we failed to get a bite, although some other boats working near us did managed to hook up with some fish. The rest of the week was a wash due to strong winds that have been dominating the weather as of late. We are trolling large horse, skirted ballyhoo for the Giants in Morehead City. This coming week looks like the winds are going to lay down and allow us to get out atleast 3-4 days. The season appears to be rolling into high gear..this next week should confirm this hopefully.
