2005-08-31 - OVER UNDER Weekly Report - August 29, 2005 - 7 & 17 tuna plus white marlin
The OVER UNDER got offshore several times this week and put some good
catches together. With some decent overnight reports starting to flow in
from the edge, the OVER UNDER ran its first overnight trips of the season.
The first night the action took a while to develop, with the first bite
coming about 12:30. After that the fish bit consistently till about 4:30,
and the crew and guests went 7-9 on nice sized yellowfin to 75#s. The
conditions were a bit sloppy Saturday night, but we dropped the hook, and
the 54' Bertram made the trip comfortable as could be expected. Back out
Sunday afternoon, we made the call to return to the same numbers, as the
conditions looked ripe for the bite to turn wide open. Stopping in 40
fathoms, we quickly put one nice yellowfin in the boat on the troll,
catching Matt Farmer his first tuna fish, before moving onto the edge to set
up just at sunset. This time it didn't take long for the fish to start
coming over the rail. From 9:00pm till 4:30 am, the crew and charter went
17 for about 24 on fish to 60 pounds. We had some great flurries with
several double and triple headers. The fish were a bit smaller than the
previous night, so we had some fun and caught many of them on Penn spinning
outfits and GLD 30's. Bait of choice was squid, either live or dead, didn't
seem to matter. Earlier in the week on a day troll trip inshore, we hooked
up and released a white marlin, catching Michael Kaplan his first billfish.
