Only the boat names of Mako Mania winners were provided in last night's blog, but tournament director Capt. Pete Grimbilas has already sent along unofficial results that include the names of boat owners and anglers as hollows: The formatting may be hard to follow, but that prompt action contrasts with the Brett T. Bailey Mako Rodeo of the week before which still hasn't posted any results on its site.

There weren't many reports today, but the Golden Eagle from Belmar was happy to see some blues on the surface after a tough weekend. Those 3-to-5-pounders were hard to jig.The afternoon fishing and cruise trip is getting some action from sea bass that have to be released plus fluke -- and even a whiting and weakfish.
The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant sent along a report of the first chub mackerel -- a species that combined with very small blues to carry the party boat fleet last summer. They also added fluke and released sea bass.
There hasn't been much striper news lately, but Scott Leadbeater of Haddon Heights was determined to put his father Roy into his favorite fish on his 78th birthday on Sunday. He chunked from his Aquasport out of Atlantic Highlands in Raritan Bay through quantities of big smooth dogfish to come up with two 25-inch shorts plus the one Roy wanted -- a 34-inch, 15-pounder.
Allen Riley of South Plainfield has been doing so poorly in the Sandy Hook surf with lures and fresh bunker that he decided to just work Gulp for fluke this morning. That enabled him to at least come up with a 16-inch fluke. Riley also sent a note from fluke pro Dan Wong of Edison, who fished aboard the Sea Tiger II from Atlantic Highlands this morning to catch four shorts. He only counted six keepers for about 30 people, but that's the way it's been so far. Be thankful to the DEP, which has gone out of compliance to keep the 18-inch minimum. There would hardly be any keepers if we had the 19-inch minimum insisted on by the ASMFC.
