Captain's Focus

Chumming may finally be opening up. The Jamaica from Brielle had great action today with bonito from 3 to 6 pounds plus blues from 2 to 5 pounds -- and added some Spanish mackerel. Frank Torres of Jersey City won the pool with an 8-pound skipjack. Everyone caught lots of fish, and some were even releasing bonito as the bite was best on jigs. The Golden Eagle from Belmar reported limits of two sea bass for most plus some limits of fluke and some ling. A few chub mackerel were also caught. The Big Mohawk from Belmar had "OK" fluking as there were many 3-to-5-pounders and limit catches. The pool fluke was just short of 10 pounds. They'll sail at 6 a.m. The Big Mohawk is chartered Tuesday. Scott Leadbeater of Haddon Heights fished his Osprey out of Atlantic Highlands on Friday and didn't find any casting action  before switching to fluking. There were only sea robins at the Knoll, but he ended up down the beach to boat fluke of 20 and 22 inches before the south wind started howling.
