Captain's Focus

It's been a long time since a large surf striper was reported, but Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park weighed a 47-inch, 29.85-pound bass this morning after Steve Marshall caught it on bunker in the Island Beach State Park surf. John Bushell, at Betty & Nick's Tackle weighed an 11 1/16-pound striper that Darryl Zaricek caught on a SP Minnow in the park. That lure has also been producing short bass at night, with up to four releases reported. At Belmar, the Golden Eagle had a very slow day of chumming and jigging, with only a few each of blues, bonito and little tunny being caught. The Ocean Explorer had decent bottom fishing for porgies and blackfish.
