Saturday's Canyon Runner Seminar in Atlantic City drew over 500 offshore anglers and raised more than $10,000 for Operation Restored Warrior though a portion of the seminar fee plus auctions of fishing tackle. That's just a small part of what the Canyon Runner does for wounded vets, including free canyon trips during the season. Everyone that cares about this marvelous fish and fishery is invited to join in on the bidding. The auction began on 2/1/18 will last for only two weeks ending on 2/18/2018 so check it out today at www.stripersforever.org/auctions/.  Auction items range from lures to fishing tackle from Orvis, Scientific Anglers and Hatch, to art works, and guided trips to such areas as New Brunswick, Cape Cod and Nantucket.  The Northeast Rod Builders Gathering will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in Grumpy's Tackle, Seaside Park. There will be groups working on all aspects of rod building so everyone from novices to experts can be accommodated. The cost is $20, which includes food and beverages. The Jersey Coast Anglers Association will be holding a Beefsteak Dinner and Fishing Seminar on Saturday, February 10at the Forked River Tuna Club on 18 Bay Avenue. The event starts at 4 p.m., with seminars running from 5-7.  There will be an update on fishing regulations, followed by presentations from Chris Lido,  and Capt. Chris Dos Santos of Barb Gail IV. The Raritan Bay Anglers Club runs their Fishing Flea Market on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Rutgers Student Center, 126 College St., New Brunswick. Admission is $5, while kids under 12 are admitted free.    The Hi-Mar Striper Club Fishing Flea Market and Seminars run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb, 10 in the Highlands VFW on Rt, 36 in Port Monmouth.  The Salt Water Anglers of Bergen County follow with their Fishing Flea Market on Sunday, Feb. 11 in the Hasbrouck Heights VFW at 13 Veterans Avenue. The Berkeley Striper Club's 23rd annual Fisherman's Flea Market is set for March 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Toms River Intermediate School North.  The Salt Water Sportsman National Seminar Series will return to the Linwood Country Club on Feb. 24. January's brutal cold and snow put a damper on winter fishing, especially after the ice and snow from bays and rivers melted off and drove ocean bottom water temperatures down. The Ocean Explorer from Belmar got some fishable weather last weekend, but didn't catch much and found some areas Sunday that had no life on them at all.  They'll continue to try it when the weather looks good, but not on Friday with a gale warning for NW winds.  The ASMFC Winter Meeting takes place from Tuesday to Thursday at the Westin Crystal City in Alexandria, Va. as management boards set regulations for this year's seasons.
