Prospects for tonight and tomorrow are poor, with wind gusts to 46 mph forecasted for tonight, and to 36 mph tomorrow. Just one look at the Bay Head surf this morning was enough to convince me that fishing would be a waste of time -- and dangerous. Betty & Nick's in Seaside Park reported that some small stripers were caught at the far southern end of Island Beach State Park on Sunday on big bucktails.Â
Capt. Russ Binns fished several wrecks off the park on Saturday with his Mar-Lin from Toms River, but found all were loaded with nothing but dogfish. School tuna were breaking near the Tolten, but wouldn't bite.
Tom Morford Jr., of Baker's Marina on the Bay in Highlands, ran out to the Mud Hole that day to seek tuna. He found them, but none would respond -- even to trolled balao.
