The Garden State Outdoor Sports Show opened today, and runs through Sunday at N.J. Expo Center in Raritan Center, Edison. Friday's hours are 1 to 9 p.m. The first sportsman's show of the season features lots of exhibits of interest to saltwater anglers plus many seminars. Capt. Pete Meyers, of Run-Off Lures, provides a Friday seminar on blackfishing at 2 p.m., and John Stein is on at 4 with "How to become a kayak fisherman". Capt. Mike Bartlett covers saltwater fly and light tackle fishing for stripers and blues at 5. Capt. Mike Corblies presents "Cruise & Cast" fishing around the world on cruise ships at 7.
I'll be on at noon Saturday to cover striped bass fishing, though I won't have any good news for surfcasters based on my fruitless Thursday evening attempt at Bay Head. The Big Mohawk from Belmar reported some blackfish limits Thursday. Miss Belmar Princess will be ready for another attempt to locate mackerel at 7 a.m. Friday.Â
