Captain's Focus

It was no day for boaters, with strong NW winds and cold temperatures. However, surfcasters were able to fish with that wind at their backs. It appears very few did as there were just a few striper weigh-ins at Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park. Joe Melillo, at Castaways Tackle in Point Pleasant, said his regulars stayed home. Bob Correll of Bay Head fished his local beach early, but without success as the northwester had blown most of the water off the beach at low tide. He returned later in the morning to release a 24-inch striper. There should be less wind on Monday, and better conditions for surfcasting. Charlie Parker of Oceanport won the JCSA Blackfish Tournament with the 10.8-pounder noted in last night's blog.
