Capt. Rob Semkewyc said there were very few anglers at Atlantic Highlands this morning, but those who showed up had a great day of striper fishing on his Sea Hunter. With little boat traffic, the birds were working all day, and limits were easy to come by. Many 30-inch bass were released along with the shorts.
I got to the Point Pleasant just a bit after Bob Clements of Point Pleasant Beach landed a striper that later weighed 15 3/4 pounds at Castaways Tackle in Point Pleasant. That bass hit a needlefish plug in the dark, and Clements also caught a short, That was it for the morning there, except for one very small bass.
Grumpy'sTackle in Seaside Park reported only small bass by the few anglers fishing in the cold.
I tried Sea Girt this evening. The water was clear and conditions perfect except for the lack of any bait -- or bass.
