We ended our regular 2012 fishing season on a high note with fishing and also with some great news for the start of the 2013 fishing season. Tog fishing was pretty impressive all weekend with some of the best Tog fishing we have seen this fall and late last week we were blessed with the news that we would have an opening on the first of January for the Black Sea Bass allowing us to be able to run trips fishing for them starting the 1st of the New Year!
After the last weekend that we had fishing I was actually looking foreword to getting back out just this past weekend and trying our luck again on some of the big Tog we had seen the week before. We weren't disappointed. We started out Friday morning fishing for these temperamental feeding Tog and it was apparent right out of the gate that we were about to have a good trip. For a change the anchoring was simple and the fish were chewing, two key ingredients for a good Tog day. The bite continued for the better part of the day with Tog that would average around four to six pounds with some much bigger fish in the mix. All tolled by the end of the day we would land over forty nice Tog for our eleven anglers with several fish approaching and surpassing double digits in weight. It was the second time in less than a week that I could boast of multiple limits of nice Tog around the boat!
On Saturday we had over double the amount of anglers that I had the day before and with high hopes I headed back out into the same depth range I fished on Friday eager to have of another good day with the fish. I knew it wouldn't be as easy as it was on Friday given the crowd and the conditions we were dealt, but after multiple stops and with the persistence of some hardcore anglers never giving up, the fish once again added up real nice for us by the end of the day and we also saw plenty more real nice fish in the mix with Tog up to twelve pounds chilling in the coolers. Saturday again saw multiple limits spread around the boat and at times it was difficult to keep up with the count but we ended our day with over 70 nice keeper Tog which was the best landing that we have seen this fall. I had high hopes of getting back out on Sunday and doing it again however I guess the forecasted rain scared everyone away and we didn't have enough sponsors to get away from the docks.
Our regular season has come to a close now however with the fish finally biting we will continue to try for the Tog with our regular Full-Day trips on just Fridays and Saturdays until the end of the year. After that we have a host of special trips on the schedule for both the Tautog and for the Black Sea Bass which will open on January 1st, 2013. The Holiday season is upon us now and it's been hard to get our groups together on any given day that the weather is going to be fit to go fishing. Reservations in advance are required for all of our special trips and it is highly suggested that you call before you come for the Tog trips the next two weekends, that way we can give you a good idea of the interest in the trips and the updated weather forecast for the day to save you a trip if we think were not going to make it. As I write this report the long range for the upcoming weekend looks a little iffy with some strong winds in the forecast but that is certainly subject to change.
We are looking foreword to the first of the year when we can get back out on the Jumbo Bass, our first scheduled long-range trip is on New Years Day with a departure time shortly after the ball drops. We are also going to fish the following day Jan. 2nd. It is likely that on these trips we will concentrate primarily on the Sea Bass however it is possible that there may be some Blue Line Tiles in the mix. I would expect to fish depths anywhere from 30 to 50 fathoms and space is limited so make sure you reserve your space well in advance.
