Sunday's trip started out absolutely brutal. Black Flies by the hundreds swarmed us on the boat. I know the flies have been awful.. but we were 10 miles off the beach and still getting swarmed. Never saw anything quite that bad. Quite honestly, we were about to call it a day very early, but we "manned up" and waited for a breeze. Once that breeze started just a bit, the flies calmed down just enough for us to do some serious fishing, and once again the Fluke cooperated. Of course, you have to pick through the shorts... but keepers over 20 inches are also fairly frequent and 6 of them in the box is quite a lot of meat.
It is really starting to be just a little funny. Whenever we are fluke fishing and the drift slows, we immediately start power drifting. It seems no one else much tries it. So usually, we get a lot of stares. First , those on the stare trying to figure out why it looks like we are "trolling". Then the stares of watching us catch fish while everyone else does nothing or just catch skates. Guys, try power drifting It works!
