Captain's Focus

The immediate affects of the recent snow storms is clear as it kept everyone in port and shut down the fish with cold water. I am more concerned with the remaining impact and how it could influence early Spring Bay Fishing.

With a deep snow pack over most of the area, there is a LOT of melting to do. How fast and when that happens will be a major factor. If we get a slow "orderly" melt off between now and Spring that would probably be best. What we DON'T want is for it to stay overly cold for the rest of the winter followed by an early spring warm spurt of above average temps. That could hurt the Bay for weeks.

First off, any run-off is not really good for the Bay. Nutrients from chemicals that are just not supposed to be in the local eco-system are introduced. And all that cold ice melt water entering the Bay has a double affect playing havoc on the water temps and dirtying up the water along the way. Ocean fishing should not generally be impacted by this except for near the inlets on outgoing tides.
