Captain's Focus

Ok guys (and gals), the Bluefish have arrived in force in Barnegat Bay. Not that they were not expected, but the overall size of the fish has many people smiling. Many of the Blues are in the 8-12 lb range. This is light tackle fishing at it's finest.

If heading out, just look for birds. If birds are not visible, don't fret, you will find them. Just about every technique is working. Casting, jigging, bait, troll... take your pick. My suggestion is that if no birds are visible, try trolling Ava's (green tube tails) or Pony Tails. After you locate them you should be able to jig some up. If you want an idea on where to start looking... try west of 42.

I should note that spring Blues are the best eating Blues available. I guess it is due to dietary intake, but in any case, if you keep some moderately sized fish, ice them promptly, and cook them fresh, you will actually have a nice meal, in addition to the great fight catching them. Tight lines!
