Captain's Focus

With today’s rain out, we unceremoniously welcome in day number 6 of the 2014 Fluke Season. May 23rd, which was opening day, started off with a bang. We had a limit and more than a few nice sized fish, with the biggest one weighing in at 6 pound 5 ounces. Since opening day it has been a struggle at times. We found fluke outside of Sandy Hook, however, unfavorable wind and current conditions made it very challenging to fish this area. Yesterday things perked up a bit. There was good activity with undersized fish, something we did not see during the first few days of the season. Our first two drifts were on the change of tide and we caught the fluke well, but once the current became too strong from the new moon, the fishing suffered. Tomorrow we will look to improve yet again. With 120 days to go in this very young season, things will only get better!
