Conditions
The seas were angry that day! It is going to be UGLY to start with an east wind up against the outgoing water. There is a tide change in a couple of hours, but until then it’s gonna be rockin and rollin!

Pregame Show
For whatever the reason, yesterday was a crazy day and not in a good way. Tangles, people trying to hold with 2 oz sinkers in Ambrose Channel, a tsunami type wake from a cargo ship, etc., but there was some good that came out of it. We caught a couple of fish that fell a few ounces short of the monthly pool fish, and a little over a dozen more that were over 4 pounds. Today most anglers have their sights set on taking down that monthly leader, however, they will have to battle Mother Nature. The conditions that we are presented with will be challenging in the form of a stiff east wind up against a strong outgoing current from the Hudson River. To say that we will be rolling around a little would be to kind. It is going to be very nasty for the first couple of hours of the trip. The silver lining is once we get in incoming current, the wave height will diminish because the tide will be running in the same direction of the wind and the angry sea affect will pass. Until then, hold tight!

Big fish has been the theme all week, and today looks to be no different. We are heading into Ambrose where we fished yesterday in hopes of finding a few giants. Look out George Cullen. The crosshairs are locked on your August Flukemaster leading fish!

August Flukemaster Classic Update
George Cullen survived a few close calls yesterday, and still holds the top spot with a 6lb 14oz fish. The pot is up to $990.00!

First Drift
A couple of shorts and a keeper followed relatively quick after we stopped and dropped the lines in. It is very rocky on the high seas today.
8.29.13.1

Second Drift
POW POW BOOM!!!! . . . 9 lb 12 oz.

8.29.13.2

John Niedzinski puts a fish just under 10 pounds in the boat! Now that’s how you start a trip!

In addition to John’s fish there were a couple of 5 pounders caught. While the conditions are tough and the overall fishing is subpar, the big fluke continue to come over the rail.

Third Drift
We caught a couple more keepers, but the conditions are so bad we are forced to move to an area with calmer seas. Heading toward Sandy Hook to seek shelter.

Fourth Drift
Good/bad routine. We are in a much calmer area, but the fishing is slow. We made this one on a ledge just inside Sandy Hook. For our next drift we are going out  on The Knoll.

Fifth Drift
A few keepers and some shorts. One of the keepers was another 5 pounder.

Sixth Drift
We almost had a POW POW BOOM! And it would have knocked off the monthly leader George Cullen. Something tells me George may have 9 lives. This big fish swims again. Lost on the surface.

Seventh Drift
A few more keepers, some shorts and a mess of sea robins.

Eighth Drift
A few shorts and one keeper to close out the day.

Postgame Show
And the trend continues. One fish 4 ounces shy of 10 pounds, another that looked to be around 8 or 9 pounds lost on the surface, and multiple others that were 4 1/2 to 5 pounds. If it wasn’t for the size of the fish that are coming over the rail the fishing would stink. Luckily the ones that we are getting are huge. The other story is of the August Flukemaster Pool. George Cullen has been dodging bullets all week, and again here today he dodged a couple more. The 9 lb 14 oz fish was not in the monthly pool, but the one that got away was. Two close calls, and another two near misses. We will see what tomorrow brings.
